An incredible opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller/ Manager to join a modern, forward thinking business in Middlesbrough as it continues on its strong growth trajectory.

The role offers a real opportunity for the successful candidate to effect positive change and be an integral player of the Finance Team with Head Office in Middlesbrough.

The day-to-day function of this role involves owning the end-to-end finance functions of the business and it two associated companies, managing delivery in all areas of financial management and reporting.

You’ll therefore need to be a numerate, strategic, and intelligent problem solver who is comfortable with cash flow management and end-to-end financial management activities.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Managing and organising staff in the Finance Department.

  • Owning the month-end and year-end accounts process, accurately prepare journals, allocations, balance sheet reconciliations and calculate accruals and provisions; liaising with the external accountants on year end.

  • Managing all invoicing based on project milestones, updating the cashflow forecast accordingly.

  • Working with the CEO to identify and develop projects for process improvements and lean techniques within the business, working with stakeholders to effectively manage these projects through to implementation.

  • Oversee payroll, ensuring that individual staff data and payment details are correct and that any inconsistencies or errors are swiftly resolved.

  • Producing daily, weekly, monthly or ad-hoc reports, accurately reporting on financial and wider business KPIs as required by the business.

  • Preparation of cash flow forecasts, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.

  • Preparation of VAT, CIS, and other returns

You will be/have:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting processes & terminology.

  • Proven track record in a similar role with experience of above requirements.

  • 'Handson’ end-to-end financial management experience.

  • Significant experience of business planning and forecasting.

  • Knowledge of KPIs across business functions, reporting on trends accordingly.

  • Familiarity with Xero Accounting Software preferred, although not essential.

  • Qualified accountant or working towards final ACCA or CIMA qualifications (desirable)
