A small, specialist engineering company based in Teesside is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team. The company designs and manufactures bespoke material handling equipment, with a particular focus on chutes.

Due to continued growth and investment in new technologies, this is an excellent long-term opportunity for a locally based engineer who thrives in a hands-on design office environment and is looking to make a meaningful impact within a close-knit team.

Responsibilities

  • Producing detailed mechanical designs and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor

  • Performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate chute designs and ensure structural integrity

  • Supporting the implementation and use of Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) software (Altair) to simulate material flow

  • Collaborating closely with fabrication and engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with manufacturing processes

  • Taking ownership of design projects from concept through to completion

  • Contributing to design improvements and the development of bespoke solutions tailored to customer needs

Experience

  • Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the material handling or heavy industrial sectors

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor with strong 3D modelling and detailing skills

  • Practical experience conducting FEA as part of the design process

  • Familiarity with DEM software, particularly Altair, is highly desirable

  • Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a small team

  • Ideally based in the Teesside area or willing to relocate for a long-term opportunity

What the Company Offers

  • A stable, long-term role in a well-established business

  • The opportunity to work on bespoke projects from concept to completion

  • Ongoing support for training and development, including new software like DEM

  • A collaborative and supportive working environment with the chance to have direct input into the design process
