​An established and growing SME group is seeking to appoint a commercially focused Group Finance Director. The businesses have a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and operational excellence and are entering an exciting strategic phase of development, including oversight of a European subsidiary.

Reporting directly to the Managing Directors, the Group Finance Director will take full ownership of finance across multiple business units. This is a strategic leadership role combining commercial insight with operational control, supporting growth, governance, and performance across the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Member of the Senior Management Team, advising owners and directors

  • Develop and implement long-term financial strategy aligned to growth objectives

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and capital allocation processes

  • Implement robust financial controls and reporting frameworks

  • Evaluate acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic investments

  • Partner with project and operations teams on contract and tender viability

  • Assess project profitability, risk exposure, and cash-flow impact pre-bid

  • Monitor project performance against budget and margin targets

  • Oversee finance and administration across all business units

  • Prepare annual budgets and departmental financial plans

  • Produce and present monthly management accounts

  • Manage forecasting and group cash-flow

  • Prepare statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors

  • Oversee AP/AR and financial operations

  • Ensure compliance with HMRC statutory returns and European VAT reclaims

  • Manage grant claims and annual R&D tax credit submissions

  • Support tender teams with financial modelling and recommendations

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance and administration team

Key Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)

  • Minimum 5 years’ senior finance leadership experience

  • Strong commercial awareness and strategic mindset

  • Experience operating across multi-entity businesses

  • Ability to manage finance through management information, audit, and year-end

  • Construction sector knowledge

  • Advanced Excel and accounting systems capability
