The Opportunity
An established and growing independent accountancy practice is looking to appoint an experienced Audit Manager to join its Audit & Accounts team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious qualified accountant who enjoys working closely with owner-managed businesses and wants to play an active role in both client delivery and departmental leadership.
The successful candidate will manage a varied portfolio of audit clients while also supporting accounts assignments where required. Alongside client work, they will contribute to the management and development of the department, making this an ideal opportunity for someone seeking a well-rounded managerial position within a supportive and progressive firm.
The Role
• The Audit Manager will be responsible for:
• Managing a portfolio of audit clients across a broad range of sectors.
• Planning, reviewing and completing audit assignments from start to finish.
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser.
• Reviewing financial statements and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting and auditing standards.
• Supporting accounts preparation and review where appropriate.
• Managing audit budgets, timelines and team resources.
• Supervising, mentoring and developing junior members of the team.
• Conducting appraisals and supporting ongoing staff development.
• Assisting with departmental planning, workflow management and operational improvements.
• Identifying opportunities to improve client service and contribute to business development where appropriate.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
• ACA or ACCA qualification (or equivalent).
• Significant audit experience gained within a UK accountancy practice.
• Experience managing a portfolio of audit clients.
• Exposure to accounts preparation/review (preferred but not essential).
• Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards.
• Experience managing and developing team members.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• A proactive and commercially aware approach to client service.
The Client Base
The firm predominantly works with owner-managed businesses and SMEs, with clients typically ranging from £1 million to £30 million turnover across a variety of sectors. The successful candidate will therefore be someone who enjoys working closely with entrepreneurial businesses and providing a hands-on, partner-led service.
